Dispercoll C 84 is an aqueous colloidal dispersion of a 2-chlorobutadiene
polymer with a high rate of crystallization.
Dispercoll C 84 is suitable for the formulation of aqueous adhesives for use in
the footwear, construction, furniture, mattress and automotive industries.

Properties / Applications

Dispercoll C 84 polychloroprene latex can be employed in the formulation of
water based contact "cements" and laminating adhesives for the automotive,
construction, and furniture industries. It can also be used for formulating
adhesives for mattress and seating assembly. Due to the strong crystallization
tendency of the polymer, rapid development of bond strength is achieved.
Dispercoll C 84 polychloroprene latex can also be used for formulating
2-component adhesives because of its "fast-break" characteristics. As with any
product, use of Dispercoll C 84 in a given application must be tested (including
but not limited to field testing) in advance by the user to determine suitability.

Compounding

The pH of Dispercoll C polychloroprene latices can decrease during storage.
To ensure reproducible application performance, adjusting the pH to a
consistent value using 10% potassium hydroxide is recommended.
Dispercoll C 84 polychloroprene latex can be blended with other aqueous
polymer dispersions of similar pH value, but compound stability should be
carefully checked. Fillers, such as calcium carbonate, clays, talc, titanium
dioxide, aluminum trihydrate or others, should be pre-dispersed in water prior
to addition to the latex. It is important that fillers do not release polyvalent
cations into the aqueous phase, since this would result in coagulation.Tackifier
emulsions, based on resin derivatives, hydrocarbon resins, terpene phenolic
resins are useful to modify open tack time, heat resistance and specific
adhesion properties. An antioxidant in emulsion form is normally added to
improve aging properties. A dispersion of Zinkoxyd Aktiv (zinc oxide) can be
added to act as an acid acceptor and increase heat resistance. Viscosity
can typically be adjusted with polyacrylate, cellulosic or urethane associative
thickeners.

Storage

Dispercoll C 84 should be stored in tightly sealed original containers and
protected from freezing, heat, and foreign materials. This product is sensitive
to freezing, and must be protected from cold. Frozen product is irreversibly
damaged. Containers must be kept sealed as otherwise the evaporation of
water will result in the formation of a non-redispersible film. Due to the process,
the product can tend toward subsequent creaming. This manifests in the form
of a very thin, brown layer which after some time becomes visible on the
surface of the product. Prior homogenization of the product using a suitable
stirrer is recommended each time product is removed from the container.
Recommended storage temperature is 10º-25ºC.

Storage time

Dispercoll C 84 has a shelf life of six months from date of receipt at
customer, provided the material is stored in sealed original containers at the
recommended storage temperature.
